Coconut Aloe Smoothie, a Delicious Detox Recipe

It is a new year and many people are looking to detox, lose weight, or just get healthier this year for their New Years Resolution. So we’ve got just the perfect recipe for you, a delicious coconut-aloe-date smoothie straight from Dr. Corson’s 99 Quick and Healthy Recipes book.

This a perfect detox recipe as the coconut and aloe nourishes your entire body and especially your digestive system and gut. The fresh, raw aloe will literally pull toxins out of your body and the coconut and date make this smoothie so creamy and sweet, you’ll want to drink it every day!

It’s also a great aid for natural weight loss as the aloe will clean out your digestive system and help your body eliminate excess toxins and digest your food more efficiently.

Coconut Aloe Detox Smoothie Recipe


1 young thai coconut
1 small strip of aloe (about 3×1 inches or a Tablespoon full of clear aloe flesh)
4-6 medjool dates, pitted, to sweeten the smoothie to your liking

How To Open A Young Coconut

If you’ve never eaten a young thai coconut before, you’re in for a treat! You can get them at most large grocery stores or just about any health food store or asian grocer.

You’ll also need to learn how to open a young coconut. You will need either a machete or a large, strong steel kitchen knife.

If you have a machete, strike the coconut hard on the top (where the pointed tip is) in 4 strikes in a large square shape – to create an opening at least 1 inch by 1 inch on the top. This will take some practice to get used to.

If you’re using a large kitchen knife, you can slice off the outer layers of the coconut near the top in the same 1 inch by 1 inch shape. Eventually you’ll cut down to the light brown internal shell which is very hard. Once you’ve cut down that far, you will need to use a forceful strike of the knife to bust it open on each side.

Making The Coconut Smoothie

Once you’ve opened the coconut (Congratulations! That was fun, wasn’t it?) pour the coconut water from the inside into a blender and scoop out the white flesh with a spoon and add that to the blender as well.

Next, scoop out the clear inner flesh of the aloe plant and place it in the blender. Be very careful not to get any large pieces of green aloe skin in there because it is a strong laxative (Warning!). Just add the inner clear flesh of the aloe – this is the good stuff that will help detox your body and cleanse out any toxins built up. Add medjool dates and blend together.

Pour in your favorite margarita glass and enjoy!

This delicious detox smoothie will keep you healthy and well nourished for the new year.
