Tom Corson-Knowles Disclaimer

For some reason a lot of people find this site and think I’m writing it solely for the money, that I’m selling something or trying to sign people up for some sinister and selfish purpose.

On one level I understand this – there is a lot of hype and spin out there in the nutrition and weight loss field and readers are well advised to be cautious and a little skeptical about what they read. On the other hand however it is hard when you do have genuine motivations to know how to convey them.

Regular readers of my blog know that I’m not just in it for the money – I share what I know about health and nutrition as openly as possible. I’m always learning new things myself about nutrition and health and sharing it on the blog. I also regularly discuss health and nutrition with other experts and frequently ask them to write articles for the site as well, especially in areas that I’m not as interested or well-versed in.

Having said this – I do ‘get’ things out of this blog (including money) and want to declare it up front in the hope that it might give you a more complete picture of my motivations for maintaining this blog.

So What do I get out of Blogging?

I believe in being transparent with blogging so as part of that I want to tell you what I gain from this blog up front. Here’s what I receive from this blog:

Money – Yes I do make a little money from this blog. You’ll see ads in different parts of the blog (mostly in the sidebar) as well as some affiliate promotions.

I only promote affiliate programs that I believe in and that I think will be relevant to my readers. I don’t note every time I use an affiliate link – I’ve found that it can be quite annoying for readers.

From time to time, I do write sponsored posts and always disclose them within the post itself.

Profile – This blog has without a doubt lifted my profile in the health blogging (and wider) community. Talking about natural weight loss and nutrition gets a reaction out of people – for some it’s positive, for others its not – especially because I am not a doctor nor do I have a nutrition degree. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t hoping to build a profile through this blog. I know that I could never be an expert in all aspects of nutrition and health (I believe the human body is far more complex than humans can ever understand), I’m committed to learning whatever I can about how people can improve their health and I love sharing all the awesome information that I learn.

In doing so I do have the goals of writing more nutrition books and freeing up more time to do consulting work in this area. These of course are ways of making money so in a sense there is some financial gain to be made through this blog in the long term.

Satisfaction – I definitely enjoy blogging. I love writing the content and I enjoy meeting and helping readers. I also really enjoy meeting all of the amazing people that I have met through this blog, including other bloggers and health experts. Honestly, I wouldn’t keep blogging if I didn’t enjoy it – life is way too short not to enjoy what you’re doing!

People also ask me why I give away so much information for free? Why don’t I create a new hotshot weight loss product like everyone else is doing. Well, I believe everyone deserves to be healthy and I just can’t keep this information to myself!

What This Blog Costs Me

Yes, I get a lot out of this blog. But it also costs a lot as well! A lot of hard work and effort goes into it. Honestly, it’s one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done.

Time – I spend a lot of time blogging – I mean a whole lot! It’s very time intensive to write this blog. I have hired an amazing writer to help me with articles from time to time. Even so, I still spend an inordinate amount of time writing new blog posts and managing the site. I put in longer hours than almost anyone I know. I do it because I love it, but it is a lot of work.

Personal Attack – I don’t want to get too dramatic, but I have had people post very nasty comments and send me very mean messages about my blog – either because they disagreed with what I was sharing or were just having a bad day. Honestly, when I get these messages, it is very discouraging and definitely affects me. Unfortunately, the internet can be quite impersonal and many people feel like they should be able to write whatever they want, even if it’s mean or hurtful. I  always try to keep a positive outlook and send love to anyone who feels the need to attack me through this site or because of it.

I Keep Blogging!

Blogging here definitely has it’s benefits and costs. Some days I’m energized by it and couldn’t think of anything else I’d rather do for a job – and other days I am tempted to quit once and for all because it seems to take more out of me than it’s worth… In the long run though the good from this site far outweighs the bad and I so I blog on.

I sincerely hope that this blog has helped improve your life in some way. If it has, please leave a comment or send me a nice message. Every time I get a wonderful message from my readers, it does make my day and I never forget it! Thank you to all of you who have already sent me a kind message – I really appreciate, probably more than you could ever know. THANK YOU!
